Description
Fallopian tubes, also called fallopian ducts, are narrow tubes that join the ovaries and the uterus. The ovaries, fallopian tubes and the uterus have their roles to play in pregnancy. Ovaries create eggs (called ovum). Each month, an ovum passing through the fallopian tube reaches the uterus. The egg sticks to the wall of the uterus (the endometrium). If it is fertilized, it begins to grow in the uterus; otherwise, it is shed along with the endometrium in periods. When sperm fertilizes an egg, it is usually in the fallopian tube. The egg passes through the fallopian tube slowly. If it receives sperm, it gets fertilized.
