After few days of Lancet study, which indicated that the Coronavirus is mostly transmitted through air, a study by a team of Chandigarh-based researchers from the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER - Chandigarh and Panjab University`s Department of Environmental Studies, has highlighted an important possibility that most probably "Pollen" is serving as an effective carrier for the Novel Coronavirus and increasing the viral transmission.

The research team of Dr. Suman Mor, Khaiwal Ravindra, and Akshi Goyal also observed that "Patients suffering from Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis were found to have pre-modified immune activation, which could help provide them protection against novel coronavirus." It implied that the immune response generated among people allergic to pollen offers them protection against the Novel-SARS-CoV virus.

The research has been published in Elsevier, an international journal. Pollen season starts of spring in March in most of the parts of India, and coincidently, with this the number of positive Covid-19 patients are rising exponentially.
